Description
This is a very neat; rare; stock certificate from around 1902. Vermilion County, in Illinois, was known for many years as one of the leading producers of coal in its mines in the late 1800's to early 1900's. One such mine that sprung up was this Himrod Mine; owned by the Himrods. A small town developed near the mine and flourished for a few years. Mike Kelly would buy the mine around 1906; he was a coal baron in the area. I believe they struck water not too long afterwards and they had to close the mine. The town died and some of the buildings were moved to Westville, Illinois. This certificate hasHIMROD COAL COMPANY.....Himrod Coal Co........Seal affixed at Danville, Ill.
