The Yellow Jacket Mines Company owned the Yellow Jacket gold mine in Santa Cruz County, Arizona in the Oro Blanco Mining District (also known as the Ruby district) in the Oro Blanco Mountains in the southeast part of Santa Cruz County. The mine was originally located in the 1870s on the Ostrich lode, a gold-bearing quartzite vein averaging 20 feet in width. The adjacent Ostrich Mine built a 20-stamp mill on site to process the ore. By the 1890s the Yellow Jacket mine shaft reached a depth of over 250 feet with workings on four levels in 1,200 feet of tunnels. The company was reincorporated in 1903 by Philadelphia investors, and the mine was re-timbered, the shaft was extended, and the mill was rehabilitated.
