    Description

Beautifully engraved certificate from the Deadwood Gold Mining Co. issued in 1877. #182 for 50 shares. This certificate has an ornate border around it. It is hand signed by the Company’s President, R. B. Symington and Secretary F. A. Sacket. Incorporated 1877 in California. The Property was stated to be 95 patented acres, 2 miles E. of Nevada City. The ore occurred in a vein up to 18" wide, carrying pyrite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite. Development was by incline shaft and 400' of drifts. According to Gudde, Deadwood was located on the Deadwood Ledge in 1856 and listed as a settlement in Bean’s 1867 directory. Deadwood today is a ghost town along the famous Western States Trail. Located at the bottom of a small canyon, there is nothing left. This was surrendered in 1878 and signed again by secretary Sacket. 4 ¼” x 7 ½”. Mild wear.
