    The Pennington Gold Mining Company owned lode gold mines along Castle Creek in Pennington County, Dakota Territory, in the southern Black Hills. Castle Creek is a tributary of Rapid Creek, approximately 14 miles long, in western South Dakota. It rises out of Deerfield Reservoir, in the Black Hills in Pennington County approximately 15 miles north-northwest of Custer. It flows north and east, joining Rapid Creek approximately 4 miles west of Silver City.
