Myopia, or nearsightedness, is one of the leading visual problems of teenagers and even adults in the modern era, with technological advances having people glued to their phones and laptops. If you are nearsighted, you may understand the struggles. Even if you aren't, you may have heard some of your friends or coworkers complaining about their glasses or their contacts. I am a myopia-ridden high school student that is setting out to help change this, and all proceeds from selling go directly towards purchasing more glasses and donating them to state-level shelters, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, churches, and senior centers.
In turn, I have formed a small nonprofit organization, named Thunder Youth, created solely for the well-being and happiness of
oth
ers. I suffer from myopia and partial retinal detachment because of my lack of eye care when I was younger. For this, I have presented to students in some nearby primary schools to support youth eye care. We have also fund-raised within our community to donate anti-blue light glasses in response to the increased digital use and the decreasing age that children “go” digital.
I recognize the growing severity of this problem and I wish to help fix it, and change the world, one set of eyes at a time.
