Lower Transom Plate for Volvo Penta similar to 21446681 with Larger surface area

Description

This is a much larger bracket for use in place of Volvo Penta part number 3842341 and 21446681 on many of the Volvo Penta SX and TSK inner transom plates.   We designed this to replace the small lower transom plate that comes with these Transom shields(see pictures).  The original lower plate does not have enough strength to resist bending and can allow the Transom plate to pull away from the outer hull if you strike a hidden object such as a log, even if the drive kicks up as it is designed to do.    The result of such an event can cause the vessel to start taking on water under the transom plate gasket.   Made from powder coated 6061 T6 AL and up to 3/4" of an inch thick for a large portion of the plate, this plate extends much further away from the 2 retaining studs not only side to side, but also vertically.   The factory plate tends to bend due to it being a thin plate and having very little material above the mounting studs so it cannot resist the torque that is put on it during an impact strike, which leads to the fiberglass under the plate directly around the studs being crushed.
This plate also provides much more load bearing surface area to distribute the load over more fiberglass area which is especially helpful if your boats transom is getting a bit soft from age.   Look at the pictures above.  You can easily see the difference in design in the picture which shows the factory bracket next to our replacement bracket.   When you have had this type of event, the engine(s) need to be pulled out, the transom plates removed, and any required inner Transom fiberglass repair work completed, before reassembly.  You only want to do this one time as the labor alone is about 00 per engine, so you will want to do it with the best possible parts.
