The La Crosse Gold Mining Company mines were located on Quartz Hill in the Central City-Blackhawk Mining District, Gilpin County, Colorado. Mines produced rich gold and silver-bearing ores primarily from the Burroughs Lode (and adjacent lodes) where the company owned several mining claims about one mile southwest of the mining town of Central City on the crest of Quartz Hill (previously called South Nevada Mountain). The La Crosse Tunnel provided access to the company’s mines. The company had a long and successful mining history in their Quartz Hill mines.
