Description
A popular area of Indianapolis 500 Memorabilia collecting is the Wilbur Shaw aluminum toy race cars sold by mail and at souvenir stands at the Speedway. The cast aluminum cars were designed as Shaw's 1939 & 1940 winning Maserati with 1946 being the earliest known produced. The cars measure 8 1/2" long by 3 1/2" wide at the outside of the Firestone tires. This toy was made by "The Little Bill Toy Company" of Chicago Illinois.At least 9 different types of the Wilbur Shaw car are known to exist. Plain, Signature, Clabber Girl Spl., Painted, Painted Signature, Pace Car, 90th Anniversary, 90th Anniversary Clabber Girl and 100th Running.
This is the "Signature version. Signature versions are the same as the plain car version except Wilbur Shaw's signature is stamped on both sides near the cowl above the frame rail. The tires are marked "Firestone. The toy has etching on the hood
"Jimmie From Gandpa 1946". The toy has scratches and nicks as fairly shown on the photos.
