1850s California stock certificate printed for the Eureka Quartz Mining Company of Eldorado County, California.
A vignette illustration depicts a mining scene with miners swinging their pickaxes, a mill race, and an overshot mill wheel powering the mill’s operations. Certificate not issued or cancelled, but it has been numbered in manuscript and is signed by Eureka Quartz Mining Company president Jas. A. Shorb and secretary E. H. Cornwall.
In the 1870s, the Eureka Mining Company, with other local mining companies and residents who wanted to form Amador City, California became embroiled in a suit as to land ownership. The case eventually reached the Federal government with the General Land of Office of the Department of the Interior weighing in on the issue.
