Create your own beeswax crayons!
One of my personal favorite ways to use beeswax! So fun to create with the kids and beeswax has such a wonderful scent. Why the additional ingredients?
Adding carnauba wax and cocoa butter to this recipe results in a harder crayon that performs well.
What you'll need:
Silicone mold
2/4 cup beeswax
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
6 tablespoons carnauba wax
1 teaspoon each of 5 different natural pigments
Directions
*Use double boiler or make a double boiler using a glass measuring cup or other tempered glass vessel. Simmer beeswax, cocoa butter, and carnauba wax in the cup over medium heat until the beeswax is melted.
*Prepare five different pigments while the beeswax is melting.
*Remove the wax mixture from the heat. Divide the wax base into five portions of one-fourth cup each.
*Working with one portion at a time, return the remaining portions to the hot water bath to keep them melted. Stir the prepared pigment into one portion, being careful to suspend it fully in the wax. Use a clean spatula for each pigment.
*Continue stirring while the mixture cools slightly, to prevent the pigment from settling to the bottom of the mixture. When the mixture begins to thicken, pour into your prepared crayon molds.
*Repeat with each additional crayon color.
*Allow the crayons to harden for several hours until they are cool to the touch.
Create your own Lip Balm!
This recipe fills 18 lip balm tubes.
Ingredients
1/4 cup beeswax
1/4 cup shea butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
40 drops peppermint essential oils* (about 1/2 tsp)
Empty lip balm tubes or empty lip gloss / cosmetic containers
Instructions
*In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl nestled on top of a pot of simmering water over medium low heat - combine beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil.
*Heat for about 10 minutes until the mixture is completely melted.
*Remove from heat and stir in peppermint essential oils.
*Pour the mixture into a glass cup or a measuring cup with a spout.
*Carefully pour into the empty lip balm tubes and fill them up to the top.
*Let them cool for 30 minutes before putting on the cap.
If you don’t like the peppermint flavor, you can use other essential oils like grapefruit or lavender. Avoid them altogether to enjoy the scent of beeswax :-)
